Start with one planning volume
Calculate net volume from the project dimensions, then choose an allowance based on the site. Use that same planning volume for both purchase options so the comparison is like for like.
For multiple sections, add their net volumes before applying a project-level allowance unless your supplier or plan specifies a different method.
List comparable costs
Enter prices from current quotes. Keep charges that may be billed separately visible, and note which costs are already included in a supplier's quoted unit price.
| Cost item | Bagged mix | Ready-mix |
|---|---|---|
| Material | whole bags × price per bag | order quantity × quoted price per volume |
| Delivery or freight | your retailer/delivery quote | supplier delivery quote |
| Equipment and handling | mixer, water, transport, cleanup | pump, chute/access, crew or placement |
| Other charges | taxes and applicable fees | short-load, wait, fuel, taxes, or other quoted fees |
Bagged material estimate
Divide planning volume by the exact mixed yield per bag and round up to whole bags. Multiply the bag count by the local bag price. Add delivery, rental, water, and labor only if they apply to your project and are not included elsewhere.
Ready-mix estimate
Use the supplier's charged quantity and price basis. Ask about minimum order quantity, billing increments, delivery charges, short-load fees, wait time, pump hire, access limits, and cancellation or rescheduling terms. Apply the actual quoted rules; there is no universal order increment or fee.
Make the decision with site conditions
Compare the complete totals alongside handling, access, placement timing, available help, and supplier requirements. This calculator can multiply prices you enter, but it cannot determine crew availability or which option is suitable for a particular site.
A small job is not automatically cheaper in bags, and a large job is not automatically better by ready-mix once local quotes and placement costs are considered. Use current prices and requirements for your location.
